Popular streaming platform Disney+ recently dropped the details about Blood Free — including the release date, cast, and plot of the highly-anticipated Kdrama. Directed by Park Cheol Han, the sci-fi thriller series will bring together Ju Ji-hoon, Han Hyo-joo, Lee Hee-joon, and Lee Moo-saeng. Here’s all that we know so far.
Riding high on the success of its crime comedy series Flex X Cop, along with a slew of other popular titles like Uncle Samsik, Light Shop, and Wonderful World, Disney + has become a front runner in the Korean entertainment game. The latest addition to this lineup of Blood Free — a futuristic, thriller Kdrama written by Lee Soo Yeon and directed by Park Cheol Han. While the former last worked on Forest Of Secrets, the latter is known for his work on Grid. On board are popular actors Ju Ji-hoon, Han Hyo-joo, Lee Hee-joon, and Lee Moo-saeng — whose characters will navigate a dangerous new world order that centers on artificially-produced meat. The plot of the Kdrama Blood Free
In the future, humans don’t consume natural animal meat. Biotechnology company BF Group produces lab-grown meat. It is also the reason why the group wields incredible power and occupies a large share in the market as well as in the world’s food chain. Naturally, business rivalries follow, with critics, both within and outside the company emerging every day. After a series of unfortunate incidents and death threats, the CEO of the company hires a former military officer as a bodyguard.
Meet the cast of Blood Free Kdrama

All the action will be led by Kingdom and Lucifer actor Ju Ji-hoon, who will essay the role of former soldier Woo Chae-woon. The character graduates from the Naval Academy and is hired as a bodyguard.
Meanwhile, actress Han Hyo-joo — known for her work in Korean dramas like W, Dong Yi, and
Brilliant Legacy — will step into the shoes of cultured meat company BF Group’s CEO and founder Yun Ja-yu.
Popular actor Lee Hee-joon — currently in the news for A Killer Paradox and Badland Hunters — will play Seonu Jae, the South Korean prime minister. Lee Moo-saeng of the Thirty-Nine fame will appear as physiologist On San — a founding member of the BF Group and general manager of culture media technology. Meanwhile, singer and actress Park Ji-yeon — who starred in Dream High and Gangnam Zombie — will play lawyer and head of planning, BF Group Jeong Hae-dun, rounding out the cast of Blood Free.
Is there a trailer for Blood Free?
The trailer of Blood Free was dropped by Disney + on 1 April. It starts with the CEO of BF Group presenting her company. The premise is established — “Food that requires slaughter is in the past now.” However, in later scenes she recognises that she’s interfered with a primary economic sector and was aware of the consequences of the same when she started. A flurry of shots depicting political, personal, and corporate struggles follow — complete with gun fights, mysterious deaths, and instances of cyber bullying. A bodyguard is hired to be her right hand man — however, she struggles to trust anyone around her. ‘The human food chain is about to be broken,’ it is declared. In a previous teaser, CEO Yun Ja-yu calls humans ‘imperfect leaders,’ adding that they must break-free from the shackles of the food chain to free themselves.
